The Influence of Lifestyle, Brand Image, and Consumer Attitudes on Wardah Cosmetics Purchasing Decisions among Extension Students of the Faculty of Economics and Business

Introduction

In today's fast-paced and dynamic world, the cosmetics industry has become a multi-billion dollar market, with various brands competing for consumers' attention. Among these brands, Wardah Cosmetics has emerged as a prominent player, known for its quality and positive image as a halal product. However, the question remains: what factors influence the purchasing decisions of students, particularly those from the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of North Sumatra? This study aims to explore the impact of lifestyle, consumer behavior, and brand image on the purchasing decisions of extension students in this faculty.

Methodology

This study employed a descriptive analysis and quantitative analysis, using multiple linear regression with T-Test, F-Test, and Determination (R²) testing. The data used consisted of primary and secondary data collected through a questionnaire, involving 93 respondents as a sample. The questionnaire was designed to gather information on the respondents' lifestyle, consumer behavior, and brand image, as well as their purchasing decisions.

Results

The results of this study showed that the independent variable (lifestyle, consumer behavior, and brand image) had a significant influence on the dependent variable (purchasing decision). This can be seen from the F-test results, where the F-count value is 15.575 with a significance level of 0.000, which is greater than F-table 2.70 with an error rate α = 5%. In other words, F-count (15.575) is greater than F-table (2.70). In addition, based on the T-test, the brand image variable has the most dominant influence on the decision to purchase Wardah cosmetics.

Analysis of Coefficient of Determination

The analysis of the coefficient of determination shows the value of R² of 0.378, which means 37.8% of purchasing decisions can be explained by lifestyle variables, consumer behavior, and brand image. While the rest, which is 65.5%, can be explained by other variables that are not examined in this study.

The Influence of Lifestyle on Purchasing Decisions

The lifestyle of modern and dynamic students today greatly affects the way they interact with cosmetic products. Wardah cosmetics, known as quality and positive image as a halal product, are able to attract the attention of students who pay attention to religious and ethical values. In addition, consumer behavior that is used to fast information through social media also accelerates the purchasing decision. Information about product excellence, testimonials, and reviews from other users scattered on digital platforms makes students more confident to buy.

The Influence of Brand Image on Purchasing Decisions

The strong Wardah brand image as a quality and ethical cosmetic brand is very influential in shaping positive perceptions among students. With a good image, students are more likely to choose the product than other brands that are less well known or not in line with the values they profess.

The Influence of Consumer Behavior on Purchasing Decisions

Consumer behavior that is used to fast information through social media also accelerates the purchasing decision. Information about product excellence, testimonials, and reviews from other users scattered on digital platforms makes students more confident to buy.

Conclusion

In conclusion, this study provides insight into the factors that influence the decision to purchase cosmetics among students, particularly those from the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of North Sumatra. The results show that lifestyle, consumer behavior, and brand image have a significant influence on purchasing decisions. The strong Wardah brand image as a quality and ethical cosmetic brand is very influential in shaping positive perceptions among students. This study not only provides insight into the factors that influence the decision to purchase cosmetics among students but also becomes the basis for producers to formulate more effective marketing strategies, taking into account the lifestyle, consumer behavior, and brand image desired by their target market.
