Introduction

The synthesis of cardanil methyl ether through cardanol echery reactions from cashew seed skin (Anacardium occidentale L.) has been a topic of interest in recent years due to its potential applications in various industries. Cardanol Isolation Process

The cardanol isolation process involves the addition of several chemicals, such as acetona, calcium hydroxide (Ca (OH) ₂), ammonium hydroxide (NH₄OH) 25%, a mixture of N-HEXANA and ETHEL acetate (98: 2), washing using sodium hydroxide (NaOH) 2.5%, hydrochloric acid (HCl) 5%, distilled water, and sodium sulfate anhydrous (na₂so₄). From this process, Kardanol was obtained as much as 74.39 g, equivalent to 74.39% of the initial weight of CNSL, with characteristics such as acid numbers 1,2863 mg KOH/g, iodine number 215,6535 g ₂/100 g, viscosity 38, 7 CP, density of 0.8266 g/ml, and pH 6.14.

FT-IR Analysis

FT-IR analysis shows the formation of methyl ether cardanil which is characterized by a decrease in the intensity of absorption of the -OH group at wave numbers around 3000-3400 cm⁻¹. The cardanil methyl ether's ft-irh spectrum shows the absorption band at 1162.9-1259.8 cm⁻¹ which shows the C-O strain group, as well as the wave number 1043.6-1148.0 cm⁻¹ which indicates the formation of asymmetrical and symmetrical stretching groups C-O-C From the ether compound. There is also an increase in the intensity of C-O-C in various molar kardanol and methyl iodide ratios (1: 1.5), which is thought to originate from the presence of -OH groups in other compounds that may experience methylation during the synthesis process.

Synthesis of Cardanil Methyl Ether

Kardanil methyl ether synthesized by adding potassium carbonate (k₂co₃), acetona, and methyl iodide, with reflux time for 8 hours. The parameters used in this study are variations of cardanol molars: methyl iodide (1: 1.5; 1: 3; and 1: 4.5) and 3,555 g produced; 12,084 g; and 11,472 g kardanil methyl ether. Kardanol analysis using GC-MS shows a result of 63.28%, while cardanil methyl ether analysis with various molar kardanol ratios: methyl iodide (1: 1.5; 1: 3; and 1: 4.5) obtain respective results 3.05%, 30.29%, and 26.58%. These results indicate that the maximum percentage of cardanil methyl ether is obtained in reaction conditions with cardanol molar ratio: methyl iodide (1: 3), using 17.3 grams of k₂co₃, 50 ml of acetona, and reflux time for 8 hours.
