Relationship of Conciences and Adequacy of Nutrition with Growth of Children Age 24-59 Months in Sorkam Kiri Village, Sorkam District

Introduction

The growth and development of children aged 24-59 months are crucial periods that require optimal nutrition to ensure proper growth and development. Inadequate nutrition can lead to malnutrition, making children more vulnerable to infectious diseases. One such infection that can affect a child's growth is worm infections, which can absorb nutrients from the child's body, causing growth inhibition and affecting overall health. This study aims to analyze the relationship between worm infections and adequacy of nutrition with the growth of children aged 24-59 months in Sorkam Kiri Village, Sorkam District, Central Tapanuli Regency.

Methodology

This study employed an observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The data collected included child growth data based on body weight obtained from KMS notes (cards to health) and growth based on height obtained from direct height measurements. Additionally, data regarding the adequacy of children's nutrition was obtained through interviews using the 24-hour recall method, while information about worm infections came from the Sorkam Puskesmas laboratory test results. The data analysis was carried out using the Chi-Square statistical test through the SPSS program.

Results

The results of this study showed that 45.4% of children experienced poor growth based on body weight/age, while 54.6% of children had good growth. Furthermore, the study found a significant relationship between worm infections and growth based on body weight and height, with a P value of 0.0001. The relationship between nutritional adequacy and growth was also clearly seen in the results of the study. Specifically, the relationship between energy adequacy with weight and height growth showed a P value of 0.037 and 0.025, respectively. As for the adequacy of protein, the P value found was 0.024 for body weight and 0.017 for height. These findings indicate that both worm infections and nutritional adequacy are important factors that contribute to children's growth.
