Introduction

Indonesia is renowned for being home to the largest mangrove forest in the world, covering an impressive area of 3.2 million hectares, which accounts for approximately 22.6% of all existing mangrove forests globally. Methodology

This study employed the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) through the Landsat satellite image and the Important Value Index (IVI) analysis with the vegetation analysis method. The NDVI is a widely used index to assess the health and density of vegetation, while the IVI analysis provides valuable insights into the diversity and abundance of plant species in a given area. By combining these two methods, this study aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the mangrove vegetation density and zoning pattern in Wonosari Village.

Results

The results of this study revealed that in 2002, the mangrove vegetation density was classified as dense, with NDVI values ranging from 0.3 to 0.4, covering an area of 415.61 hectares or 67.23% of the total region. In contrast, in 2022, the vegetation density increased to a meeting class, with an area of 495.53 hectares or 80.16%. Although there was an increase in dense vegetation density by 79.92 hectares, a very thick vegetation density decreased by 111.80 hectares. These findings suggest that the mangrove ecosystem in Wonosari Village has undergone significant changes over the past two decades, with an increase in dense vegetation density and a decrease in very thick vegetation density.

The formation of mangrove vegetation at the location of this study is divided into three zones: open, intermediate, and back zones. The open zone is inhabited by species such as Rhizophora mucronata, Bruguiera Parviflora, and Avicennia Alba. The intermediate zone is characterized by the presence of Rhizophora mucronata and Bruguiera parviflora species, while the back zone, located on land, is dominated by species such as Xylocarpus granatum, Acrostichum aureum, and excoecaria agallocha.
