Controlling plant diseases with endophytic mushrooms from Dutch eggplants

Research conducted by Amalia Tri Kurnia, under the guidance of Mukhtar Iskandar Pinem and Syahrial Oemry, examined the potential of endophytic fungi originating from Dutch eggplant (Solanum Betacea) to control plant diseases caused by fusarium oxysporum F.SP. Capsiciandalternaria solani. This study was conducted at the Plant Disease Laboratory, USU Faculty of Agriculture, from May 2013 to January 2014, using a random design complete with two factors in 2 replications. The first factor is the type of pathogen (fusarium oxysporum F.Sp. capsiciandalternaria solani), while the second factor is the type of endophytic fungus (E1, E2, E3, E4, E5, E6, E7, E8, E9, E10, E11, E12, E13, E14, E15).

The results showed that the type of pathogen, the type of endophytic fungus, and the interaction between the two significantly affect the inhibition zone, the width of the colony growth, and the diameter of the colony. E6 endophytic fungi show the best results in controlling f. oxysporum * and * a. Solani with an inhibition zone of 56.89% and 54.10% respectively.
