Introduction

The use of phosphorus (P) fertilizers in agriculture has become a crucial aspect of crop production, particularly in rice cultivation. However, the excessive use of P fertilizers can lead to the accumulation of P residues in the soil, which can have negative impacts on the environment and human health. In this study, we examined the effect of the phosphorus fertilization system (P) conducted by farmers on P residues in paddy land in Tanjung Mulia Village, Tanjung Morawa District.

Methodology

The researcher, Andri Saputra, took a sample of the soil from the rice field surface (0-20 cm) compositely from 9 representative sample points. The analysis was carried out on several soil chemical parameters, namely:

Results

The results showed that rice production in the village of Tanjung Mulia was influenced by P-total, P-Dratified, and P-Al. Conversely, P-Available, P-RS, P-FE, and P-CA showed a lower effect on crop yields.

The difference in influence between the P parameter can be attributed to the different forms of P in the soil. P-total is the total P contained in the soil, both available or not available for plants. High P-total shows high potential P in the soil, but does not always guarantee the availability of P for plants.

P-Dratified is showing P which is easily soluble in water and can be absorbed by plants. P-Dratified is an important indicator in determining the availability of P for plants.

P-Al is P which is bound to aluminum. P-al can be a source of P for plants, but its availability can be influenced by factors such as soil pH and the existence of other elements.

P-AVAILABLE is showing P available for absorbed by plants. This parameter is the most relevant indicator in assessing the availability of P for plants.

P-RS is showing P which is bound to plant residues and can be released slowly. P-RS is a stable source of P and can increase the availability of P in the long run.

P-FE is showing P which is bound to iron. P-FE is difficult to access by plants, but can be released through certain biochemical processes.

P-Ca is showing P which is bound to calcium. P-CA is a relatively stable source of P and can increase the availability of P in the long run.

Main Factor: Lack of fertilizer P

This study also showed that the low rice production in Tanjung Mulia Village was related to the habits of farmers who lacked P fertilizer in their rice fields. This causes low availability of P in the soil and impacts the growth and yield of rice.

Effects of land ownership status

Although the characteristics of farmers do not really affect rice yields, the status of land ownership turns out to have an effect. Farmers who have their own paddy fields tend to pay more attention to the fertilization and management of land. This shows the importance of increasing farmers' knowledge and awareness about the appropriate fertilization of P to increase yields.

Residu P in paddy land in Tanjung Mulia Village is influenced by the PEKERS fertilization system. Lack of fertilizer P is the main cause of low availability of P in the soil and impact on rice production. Increasing farmers' knowledge about the appropriate fertilization of P, the use of organic fertilizer, and support from the government can help increase rice production in Tanjung Mulia Village and improve the welfare of farmers.

Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations are made:

Farmers should be educated on the importance of proper fertilization and the use of organic fertilizer to increase the availability of P in the soil.
The government should provide support in the form of providing information, training, and appropriate fertilizer assistance for farmers.
Farmers should be encouraged to adopt sustainable agricultural practices that minimize the use of chemical fertilizers and promote the use of organic fertilizers.
