Introduction

North Sumatra, a region in Indonesia, is heavily reliant on agriculture for its economy and food security. The global climate phenomenon factor that most affects monthly rainfall in North Sumatra is a model that combines IOD and Southern Oscillation Index (SOI).

This shows a profitable planting pattern for rice and other plants. However, in the western and mountain slopes, the identified climate type is E1, which shows that the area is too dry for rice cultivation and is more suitable for planting secondary or other tertiary plants.
