Introduction

Entering college is one way to increase one's competitiveness in the future. One important factor that determines student decisions to continue their education to college is interest. This study aims to identify factors that influence student interest in continuing higher education by using a combination of major component analysis (PCA) and cluster analysis. The research was conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Babalan, P. Brandan, a school that provides quality education to its students.

Background of the Study

The decision to continue higher education is a crucial one, and it is influenced by various factors. Students' interest in continuing higher education is a complex phenomenon that is influenced by both internal and external factors. Internal factors include personal motivation, parental support, and parents' expectations of the future of students. Methodology

This study used a combination of PCA and cluster analysis to identify the factors that influence students' interest in continuing higher education. PCA is a statistical technique that simplifies data without reducing its characteristics. Cluster analysis, on the other hand, is a technique that groups similar objects into clusters. The data used in this study was collected from students at SMA Negeri 1 Babalan, P. Brandan.

Results

The results of this study indicate that there are four factors that influence students' interest in continuing higher education:

Cluster Analysis

The results of cluster analysis produced three groups (clusters) of students based on factors that influence their interests:

This cluster includes students who are influenced by factors from themselves and parents, support factors, and the financial ability of parents. Students in this cluster are more likely to continue their education to college because they have the support of their parents and friends.

Cluster 2

This cluster includes students who are influenced by factors from themselves and parents, as well as friends. Students in this cluster are more likely to be influenced by their friends and continue their education to college.

Cluster 3

This cluster includes students who are influenced by the support factor. Students in this cluster are more likely to be influenced by the support of their teachers and families and continue their education to college.
