Introduction

In today's fast-paced and ever-changing economic landscape, financial management has become a crucial aspect of an individual's life. For students, particularly those in the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of North Sumatra, managing finances effectively is essential to achieve academic success and financial stability. However, the influence of various factors on financial management among students is a complex and multifaceted issue. This study aims to analyze the extent of the influence of financial attitudes, financial literacy, financial inclusion, lifestyle, and financial technology on the financial management of students who use Shopee Paylater.

Literature Review

Financial attitudes refer to an individual's perception and behavior towards financial matters. A positive financial attitude is characterized by a willingness to save, invest, and manage finances effectively. Financial literacy, on the other hand, refers to an individual's understanding of financial concepts and their ability to apply this knowledge in real-life situations. Financial inclusion refers to the access to financial services and products by individuals and households. Lifestyle, in this context, refers to an individual's spending habits and financial behavior. Financial technology, including digital payment systems like Shopee Paylater, has revolutionized the way individuals manage their finances.

Methodology

This study uses a descriptive approach with quantitative methods to analyze the influence of financial attitudes, financial literacy, financial inclusion, lifestyle, and financial technology on financial management among students who use Shopee Paylater. The population of this study consists of students from the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of North Sumatra who use Shopee Paylater. The sampling method used is purposive sampling with the lemeshow formula, producing a total sample of 97 respondents.

Research Findings

The results of this study show that partially, independent variables have different influences on financial management. First, financial attitudes show a positive and significant influence on financial management. Students who have a positive attitude towards finance tend to be better in managing their finances. This suggests that a positive financial attitude is a crucial factor in achieving financial stability.

Second, financial literacy has a positive influence, but is not significant on financial management. This shows that although an understanding of financial concepts is important, a higher level of literacy does not necessarily guarantee better financial management. This can be caused by other factors that influence student financial behavior.

Third, financial inclusion has a negative and significant influence on financial management. This phenomenon shows that although access to financial services is wider, students may not use these facilities wisely, so they have the potential to cause financial problems.

Fourth, lifestyle has a positive and significant effect on financial management. Students who have an economical and wise lifestyle in expenditure are usually able to manage their finances better. Excessive lifestyle can actually lead to serious financial problems.

Finally, financial technology affects financial management, although not explained in detail in this study. This shows that the adoption of financial technology, such as Shopee Paylater, has a certain effect on the way students plan and manage their finances.

Simultaneous Effect

Simultaneously, all variables - financial attitude, financial literacy, financial inclusion, lifestyle, and financial technology - have a significant influence on student financial management, with a contribution of 87.6%. This means that more than 87% of variations in student financial management can be explained by these five factors. The remaining 12.4% can be influenced by other factors outside the model used in this study.

Conclusion and Implications

From the results of the analysis, it appears that student financial management is strongly influenced by their financial attitudes and lifestyles. Therefore, it is essential for universities and related institutions to increase students' understanding and awareness of the importance of good financial management through financial literacy and training programs. This will help students not only in preparing effective financial plans, but also in making more wisely financial decisions in the future.

With a good increase in understanding and financial management, students can achieve better financial stability during their study period and so on. Furthermore, this study highlights the importance of financial technology in shaping student financial behavior. As digital payment systems continue to evolve, it is crucial for students to understand the implications of using these systems on their financial management.
