Introduction

Effective supervision is a crucial aspect of any organization, and in the context of healthcare, it plays a vital role in ensuring the quality of services provided. The head of the room, as a supervisor, has a significant impact on the performance and job satisfaction of the implementing nurse. The ability of the head of the room to supervise effectively can lead to improved performance and job satisfaction among nurses. This study aims to investigate the relationship between the supervision ability of the head of the room, job satisfaction, and the performance of the implementing nurse at Dr. Pirngadi City of Medan.

Background

The implementation of effective supervision is dependent on the ability of the head of the room in managing the process of nursing supervision. Supervision carried out by the head of the room has a great potential to improve the performance of the implementing nurse. The intended performance can be assessed from the quality and quantity of tasks carried out by employees. In this context, the head of the room plays a crucial role in ensuring that the implementing nurse is able to perform their duties effectively.

Research Methodology

This study employed a quantitative research design with a cross-sectional approach. The research population consisted of all implementing nurses who are civil servants (PNS) in the inpatient room of Dr. Pirngadi, totaling 264 people. Sampling was carried out by proportionate stratified random sampling technique, so that 159 implementing nurses were obtained from all inpatient rooms.

Data Analysis

The data collected was analyzed using the univariate method to determine the frequency distribution of each variable studied. In addition, bivariate analysis was carried out by non-parametric statistical test correlation Spearman to assess the strength of the relationship between the variables analyzed. The results of the analysis showed that the P value for the relationship between the ability of the head of the room with the performance was 0.107, which indicated that there was no significant relationship. Likewise, the relationship between supervision capabilities and job satisfaction shows the P value of 0.132, which means there is no significant relationship. However, the relationship between job satisfaction and performance has a P value of 0.001, which shows a significant relationship between these two variables.

Implications of Research Findings

This finding provides important insights for hospital management. Although the ability of the supervision of the head of the room is not proven to have a significant effect on performance and job satisfaction directly, it is important to note that job satisfaction is closely related to performance. Therefore, increasing job satisfaction nurses can be an effective strategy to improve their performance.

Recommendations

From the results of this study, it is recommended to the management of Dr. Pirngadi to improve the ability of the supervision of the head of the room through training and seminars on nursing supervision. With the increasing ability of supervision, it is expected that not only the job satisfaction of nurses will increase, but also their performance in carrying out duties and responsibilities.

Conclusion

Overall, this study shows that while the ability of the supervision of the head of the room does not have a significant direct impact on the performance and job satisfaction of nurses, job satisfaction itself acts as an important factor in improving performance. Therefore, focusing on the development of job satisfaction through various managerial initiatives can have a positive impact on the quality of services provided at Dr. Pirngadi City of Medan.

Limitations of the Study

This study has several limitations. Firstly, the study was conducted in a single hospital, which may limit the generalizability of the findings. Secondly, the study only focused on the relationship between the supervision ability of the head of the room, job satisfaction, and the performance of the implementing nurse, and did not explore other factors that may influence these variables.

Future Research Directions

Future research should aim to explore the relationship between the supervision ability of the head of the room, job satisfaction, and the performance of the implementing nurse in other healthcare settings. Additionally, research should be conducted to identify other factors that may influence these variables, such as leadership style, organizational culture, and work environment.

Conclusion

In conclusion, this study highlights the importance of job satisfaction in improving performance among nurses. While the ability of the supervision of the head of the room does not have a significant direct impact on performance and job satisfaction, it is essential to focus on developing job satisfaction through various managerial initiatives. By doing so, hospital management can improve the quality of services provided and enhance the overall performance of the implementing nurse.
