Introduction

Binahong (Anredra Cordifolia (TEN) Steenis) is a medicinal plant that has been widely used for centuries due to its numerous health benefits. This plant is rich in secondary metabolites, which are responsible for its medicinal properties. Binahong is known to cure various diseases, such as typhus, ulcer, inflammation of the intestine, rheumatism, gout, and hemorrhoid. However, the cultivation of Binahong is still limited, and the availability of this plant as a raw material for traditional medicine is scarce. Therefore, this study aims to examine the response of vegetative growth in several Binahong accessions with the application of aquaculture technology packages.

Methodology

This study was conducted at the Head of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatra, during the period January to August 2020. The research method used was a randomized factorial group with two treatment factors: the origin of the Binahong planting material and the Binahong Aquaculture Technology Package. Observed parameters include plant length, number of leaves, total leaves, root volume, wet weight of root rhizomes, canopy dry weight, root dry weight, and root canopy ratio.

Results

The results showed that Binahong's accessions from Medan Johor had better vegetative growth compared to other accessions. This accession records the highest value for the length of the plant, number of leaves, root volume, total leaf area, and dry weight of the canopy. On the other hand, Binahong's accession from Barus Ginger Karo has a wet weight of root rhizome, rooted dry weight, and the highest root canopy ratio.

Discussion

The application of Binahong Aquaculture Technology Package with Top Soil Planting Media Composition: Compost: Manure (3: 1: 1), 25% shade, Natural ZPT Bamboo Bamboo 60%, and 10 ml/L liquid organic fertilizer is proven to increase plant length and number Binahong leaves. This study provides an interesting picture of the effect of accessions and aquaculture technology packages on binahong vegetative growth.

Importance of Accession Selection

Differences in Vegetative Growth Responses between Binahong Accessions show that the right accession selection is very important to get optimal cultivation results. This study shows that the accessions of the Johor Medan have better potential in terms of vegetative growth, especially in terms of biomass production.

Efficiency of Aquaculture Technology Package

Application of proper aquaculture technology packages can increase binahong vegetative growth, as indicated by an increase in plant length and number of leaves in treatment with the optimal composition of planting media and liquid organic fertilizer.

Further Development Potential

This research can be the basis for the development of further research, such as testing the influence of environmental factors (climate, soil, and height) on binahong vegetative growth, as well as the identification and characterization of secondary metabolites contained in the Binahong accession different.
