Background

The prolonged Covid-19 pandemic has put a great pressure on health facilities and medical personnel, especially on the Delta variant wave. In this situation, telemedicin services in Indonesia experienced rapid development to meet the needs of patients who were positively confirmed Covid-19. One of these initiatives is the North Sumatra Covid Covid Telemedisin developed by the University of North Sumatra. This service is designed to help Covid-19 patients in Medan who must undergo independent insulation at home. Through this platform, patients can access free medical consultations, drugs without cost, and referral services, while reducing physical contact during the isolation period.

Research purposes

This study aims to explore demographic data, vaccination status, clinical information, household conditions, the use of previous drugs, and the severity of the Covid-19 among patients who use the North Sumatra Covid Covid Telemedisin service during the Omicron variant wave period in Medan.

Methodology

This study is a quantitative descriptive research that uses medical records from the North Sumatra Covid Covid Rawat. Patients registered in the Omicron variant surge from February 26 to 30 April 2022, who lived in the city of Medan and confirmed Covid-19 through the PCR or Antigen test, were included in this study. The data to be presented includes demographics, clinical information, and the condition of the patient's residence.

Results

From the results of the study, it was found that the majority of patients were in the age group 18-39 years (68.3%), with 61.5% women's dominance. As many as 95.1% of patients have received vaccination. The most common comorbidity found is hypertension (9.3%). The most reported symptoms are coughing (86.3%), and most patients experience mild symptoms (93.5%). Around 55.4% of patients reported taking drugs. In addition, 80.9% of patients have a private bathroom, which shows the readiness of home conditions to do isolation.

Analysis and Explanation

Data obtained from this study provides valuable insight into the characteristics of Covid-19 patients who use telemedicine services. The high rate of vaccination among patients indicates that people have begun to realize the importance of immunization in the face of pandemic. Although many patients experience mild symptoms, the presence of comorbidity such as hypertension needs to be a special concern, because it can worsen the patient's condition if infected with Covid-19.

The availability of facilities such as a private bathroom shows that not all households have the ideal condition to undergo independent isolation. Therefore, there needs to be further efforts to increase household readiness in the future. In addition, information about the treatment that has been carried out by patients is important for better case management.

Conclusion

Overall, telemedicin services have contributed positively in providing health access needed for the community, especially during the surge in COVID-19 cases. The data generated from this study can be used to understand the condition of individuals and household readiness in carrying out isolation, as well as to prepare a health system in dealing with potential for future outbreaks.

Improve case management: Information about the treatment that has been carried out by patients is important for better case management.
Prepare health system: The health system should be prepared to deal with potential for future outbreaks by increasing the capacity of healthcare facilities and personnel.
