Introduction

The increasing prevalence of Covid-19 transmission among pregnant women is a serious concern worldwide. As a result, governments worldwide have urged pregnant women to follow the Covid-19 vaccination as a step to break the chain of transmission of this virus. Covid-19 vaccination plays a crucial role in increasing the physical immunity of pregnant women to prevent viral infections. However, the implementation of this vaccination is influenced by various factors, such as knowledge, attitudes, support from husband and family, as well as support from health service providers. This study aims to identify the factors that influence pregnant women in conducting Covid-19 vaccination in the working area of Muara Batu Health Center.

Background

Covid-19 is a highly contagious respiratory disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared Covid-19 a global pandemic in March 2020. Pregnant women are at a higher risk of severe illness and death from Covid-19 due to their weakened immune system. Therefore, it is essential to ensure that pregnant women receive the Covid-19 vaccination to protect themselves and their unborn babies.

Methodology

This study uses a descriptive design with a population of 190 pregnant women in the Muara Batu Health Center. Of these, as many as 65 respondents were taken as samples using purposive sampling techniques. The data obtained were analyzed by descriptive statistical methods. The results showed that of 65 respondents, 26 of them (40%) were willing to receive COVID-19 vaccination, while 39 respondents (60%) refused. Respondents' knowledge is also in the spotlight, where 39 of them (60%) have poor knowledge about vaccination. In terms of attitude, 43 respondents (66.2%) showed a positive attitude towards vaccination, while 40 respondents (61.5%) received support from husband and family. However, what is striking is 45 respondents (73.8%) feel that they did not get adequate support from health service providers in conducting COVID-19 vaccinations.

Results

The results of this study showed that the knowledge and support factor of health care providers is a dominant factor that influences the decision of pregnant women to vaccinate COVID-19. Good knowledge about the benefits of vaccination and strong support from the family and health care providers can increase the level of participation of pregnant women in vaccination. The results also showed that 39 respondents (60%) have poor knowledge about vaccination, which is a significant barrier to vaccination. Furthermore, 45 respondents (73.8%) feel that they did not get adequate support from health service providers in conducting COVID-19 vaccinations, which is a critical factor in influencing their decision to vaccinate.

Discussion

The results of this study are consistent with previous studies that have shown that knowledge and support are critical factors in influencing the decision of pregnant women to vaccinate COVID-19. Good knowledge about the benefits of vaccination and strong support from the family and health care providers can increase the level of participation of pregnant women in vaccination. However, the results also showed that 39 respondents (60%) have poor knowledge about vaccination, which is a significant barrier to vaccination. Furthermore, 45 respondents (73.8%) feel that they did not get adequate support from health service providers in conducting COVID-19 vaccinations, which is a critical factor in influencing their decision to vaccinate.

Conclusion

The results of this study showed that the knowledge and support factor of health care providers is a dominant factor that influences the decision of pregnant women to vaccinate COVID-19. Good knowledge about the benefits of vaccination and strong support from the family and health care providers can increase the level of participation of pregnant women in vaccination. Therefore, efforts to increase knowledge and awareness regarding vaccination are very important through an educational program that involves all stakeholders, especially health workers. By increasing knowledge and providing appropriate support, it is expected that more pregnant women are willing to be vaccinated, so that it can help minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission and protect the health of the mother and fetus.

Recommendations

Based on the results of this study, the following recommendations are made:

Increase knowledge and awareness: Efforts to increase knowledge and awareness regarding vaccination are very important through an educational program that involves all stakeholders, especially health workers.
