Relationship of Knowledge Level and Anxiety of Pregnant Women Covid-19 Vaccination at the Mulyorejo Sunggal Health Center

Introduction

Pregnant women are a vulnerable group exposed to COVID-19, and they are at risk of experiencing serious complications. Vaccination is an essential step to protect pregnant women and the fetus from the risk of infection. However, not a few pregnant women feel anxious and hesitant to be vaccinated. This study aims to examine the relationship between the level of knowledge and anxiety of pregnant women to the Covid-19 vaccination at the Mulyorejo Sunggal Health Center.

Background

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the world, and pregnant women are not exempt from the risks associated with the virus. Pregnant women are more susceptible to severe illness and complications from COVID-19, which can lead to preterm birth, low birth weight, and even maternal mortality. Vaccination is a crucial measure to prevent the spread of the virus and protect pregnant women and their fetuses.

However, many pregnant women are hesitant to receive the COVID-19 vaccine due to various reasons, including lack of knowledge, misinformation, and concerns about the safety and efficacy of the vaccine. This study aims to investigate the relationship between the level of knowledge and anxiety of pregnant women to the Covid-19 vaccination at the Mulyorejo Sunggal Health Center.

Methodology

This study was conducted with a quantitative approach and correlational descriptive design. A total of 55 pregnant women undergoing pregnancy examination at the Mulyorejo Sunggal Health Center were chosen as a sample using the Consecutive Sampling method. Data was collected using a questionnaire that measured the level of knowledge and anxiety of COVID-19 vaccination.

The questionnaire consisted of two parts: the first part measured the level of knowledge about COVID-19 vaccination, and the second part measured the level of anxiety against vaccination. The level of knowledge was measured using a 10-item questionnaire, and the level of anxiety was measured using a 5-item questionnaire.

Results

The results showed that the knowledge of pregnant women about COVID-19 vaccination still needs to be improved. As many as 40% of pregnant women have enough knowledge, 36.4% of knowledge are lacking, and only 23.6% have good knowledge. The anxiety level of pregnant women against vaccination is also divided into three categories: 41.8% experience moderate anxiety, 30.9% are not anxious, and 27.3% feel mild anxiety.

Data analysis using the Spearman test shows a significant relationship between the level of knowledge and anxiety of pregnant women and COVID-19 vaccination. The p-value value of 0.021 (α <0.05) with the Spearman correlation coefficient of 0.311 indicates that the higher the knowledge of pregnant women, the lower the level of anxiety to vaccination.

Discussion

This finding shows that knowledge plays an important role in reducing the anxiety of pregnant women against COVID-19 vaccination. The more information obtained by pregnant women about the safety and benefits of vaccination, the more confident and calm they are in the vaccination. Some factors that can increase the anxiety of pregnant women to vaccination include lack of accurate information, myths and hoaks circulating, concerns about the side effects of vaccines on the fetus, and lack of support from families and health workers.

Conclusion

Increased knowledge and reduction of anxiety of pregnant women to Covid-19 vaccination is crucial in achieving herd immunity and protecting the health of pregnant women and fetuses. Collaborative efforts from various parties, including health workers, government, and the community, are needed to ensure access to accurate information and safe and comfortable vaccination services for pregnant women.
