Introduction

The maintenance and production of buffalo livestock play a crucial role in the economic development of rural communities, particularly in North Sumatra Province, Indonesia. In this study, we conducted a comprehensive analysis of the techniques used by farmers in Bandar Manis Village, Pematang Bandar District, Simalungun Regency, to care for their buffalo livestock. Our research aimed to identify the problems faced by farmers, evaluate the productivity of buffalo livestock, and optimize the use of inputs in the production of these livestock.

Methodology

Our analysis method consisted of descriptive analysis and COBB-Douglas function analysis, in addition to the analysis of production input efficiency. We collected data from a sample of 50 farmers in Bandar Manis Village, who were selected using a random sampling technique. The data were then analyzed using statistical software to identify trends and patterns in the maintenance and production of buffalo livestock.

Results

Our results showed that the maintenance techniques used by farmers in Bandar Manis Village still did not meet the ideal technical cultivation requirements. Some of the main problems faced by farmers include:
