Introduction

The cultivation of chili peppers is a significant agricultural activity in many parts of the world, providing a valuable source of income for farmers and a staple ingredient in various cuisines. However, the growth and production of chili peppers can be influenced by various factors, including the type and amount of fertilizer used, as well as the timing of its application. In this study, we aim to investigate the effect of Grand-S15 fertilizer and the most optimal application time on the growth and production of chili peppers.

Methodology

The study was conducted in the Experimental Garden of the Faculty of Agriculture, Islamic University of North Sumatra, Johor Medan Building, at an altitude of about 25 meters above sea level, during the period February 2003 to July 2003. A factorial randomized group (rack) design was used, with two treatment factors: Grand-S15 fertilizer and application time.

The first factor, Grand-S15 fertilizer, consisted of four doses: G1 (10 g/plant), G2 (15 g/plants), G3 (20 g/plants), and G4 (25 g/plants). The second factor, application time, had four time combinations: W1 (30, 50, 70, 90 days after planting), W2 (32, 52, 72, 92 HST), W3 (34, 54, 74, 94 HST), and W4 (36, 56, 76, 96 HST).

Parameters Observed

The parameters observed in this study included:

Production per Plot: measured in grams (g)

Results

The results of the study showed that the treatment of Grand-S15 fertilizer significantly increased plant height, number of fruit per sample, as well as production per sample and per plot. However, there was no significant effect on the number of branches and the number of fruit per sample.

Similarly, the treatment of fertilizer application time was also proven to be effective in increasing plant height, number of fruit per sample, as well as production, but did not significantly affect the number of branches and the number of fruits.

Optimal Fertilizer Dose and Application Time

From the results of the study, it was known that the optimal Grand-S15 fertilizer dose was in the range of 20-20.94 g/plant, which produced the highest plant height of 77.55 cm, the highest number of branches reached 80.58 branches, the highest number of fruit per sample 36.83 pieces, as well as the highest sample production of 80.71 g, and the highest production per plot is 213.53 g.

Meanwhile, the most effective fertilizer application time was at 30, 50, 70, and 90 days after planting, where the highest plant height was 77.00 cm, the highest number of branches was 82.79 branches, the highest number of samples per sample was 37.63 pieces, the highest production per sample was 89.30 g, and the highest production per plot was 220.80 g.

Conclusion

Through this study, it can be concluded that the use of the right Grand-S15 fertilizer and optimal application time selection can make a significant contribution to the growth and production of chili peppers. Understanding the effect of fertilizers and the time of this application is very important for farmers in an effort to increase the yield of chili harvest, as well as ensuring the sustainability of agricultural production in the future.

Recommendations

Therefore, further research and the application of appropriate agricultural techniques are highly recommended to achieve more optimal results.
