Introduction

In today's fast-paced and competitive work environment, employee performance is a critical factor that determines the success of any organization. The government agencies, in particular, face significant challenges in improving employee performance due to various factors such as limited resources, inadequate training, and lack of motivation. One of the key strategies to improve employee performance is through education and training (Diklat). This research aims to investigate the effect of education and training on employee performance at the Pancur Batu District Office, Deli Serdang Regency.

Background

The Pancur Batu District Office, Deli Serdang Regency, is a government agency responsible for providing various services to the community. The office has a total of 35 employees who are responsible for delivering services to the public. In recent years, the office has been facing challenges in improving employee performance due to various factors such as inadequate training, limited resources, and lack of motivation. In response to these challenges, the office has implemented a training program to improve employee performance.

Methodology

This research uses a quantitative approach to investigate the effect of education and training on employee performance. The data collection method used is a questionnaire to measure training variables and employee performance. In addition, documentation is also used to support existing data. The data analysis technology used is simple regression analysis, with validity, reliability, and normality tests to ensure that the data obtained can be trusted and valid.

Results

The results of the study showed that training had a positive and significant effect on employee performance. The regression equation identified is as follows: y = 31,222 + 0.554x. The coefficient of determination obtained is r^2 = 0.237, which means 23.7% of employee performance is influenced by the training received. While the remaining 76.7% of employee performance is influenced by other factors that are not examined in this study.

Discussion

The results of this study are in line with the theory of human resource development, which states that better employee competencies can be produced through structured and quality training programs. Although the effect of training on employee performance is quite significant, with a coefficient of determination 23.7%, there are still 76.7% of employee performance affected by other factors. This shows that although training can have a positive impact, other factors such as the work environment, leadership, and individual motivation also play an important role in determining the level of employee performance.

Recommendations

This study has several limitations. Firstly, the study only focuses on the Pancur Batu District Office, Deli Serdang Regency, and may not be generalizable to other government agencies. Secondly, the study only examines the effect of education and training on employee performance and does not consider other factors that may affect employee performance.
