Introduction

Methodology

This study was conducted on experimental land in Johor, with a height of ± 25 meters above sea level (DPL) in November 2019 to March 2020. The study used a separate plot design (RPT) with two main factors:

*** MULSA (M): Consists of 3 treatments, namely M0 (without mulch), M1 (Rice Straw Mulch). *** Organic material (B): Consists of 4 treatments, namely B0 (without organic material), B1 (Chicken Manure), B2 (Cow Manure), B3 (Kascing Fertilizer).

Observed parameters include:

Plant height
Number of leaves
Stem diameter
Age flowering
Production per sample
Production per child plot
Weighs 1000 seeds

Results

The results of this study showed that:

*** Giving mulch: Create a significant effect on the number of leaves in the 4th week after planting (MST). However, it does not show a significant effect on other parameters, such as plant height, stem diameter, flowering age, production per sample, production per child plot, and 1000 seed weight. *** Provision of Organic Materials: Create a significant effect on plant height in the 4th and 6th week of MST, the number of leaves in the 4th, 5th, and 6th week of MST, and the weight of 1000 seeds. However, it has no significant effect on the diameter of the stem, flowering age, production per sample, and production per plot. *** Interaction between mulch and organic matter: does not show a significant effect on all observation parameters.

Discussion

The results of this study indicate that the administration of mulch and organic matter has a different influence on the growth and production of sorghum plants. Rice straw mulch is proven to be effective in increasing the number of leaves in the early stages of growth, but does not have a significant impact on other parameters. On the other hand, the provision of organic materials, such as manure of chicken, cow, and kascing manure, has a positive impact on plant height, number of leaves, and 1000 seed weight.

Conclusion

This study provides important information related to the continuous sorghum cultivation strategy. Provision of mulch and organic matter is an environmentally friendly technique and can improve the efficiency of resource use. The results of this study can be a reference for farmers in optimizing the growth and production of sorghum plants.
