Introduction

Mapping science is an essential tool in understanding the development and structure of science in a field. It provides a clear and comprehensive overview of the existing knowledge, trends, and patterns in a particular area of study. In this study, the focus was carried out on online journals Read: Journal of Documentation and Information PDII LIPI from 2014 to 2016. The main purpose of this study was to produce a clear map of science from 33 articles published in that period. The descriptive method used aims to uncover various important information about the characteristics of the published article.

Methodology

The data was collected through documentation techniques, and analysis was carried out on all articles contained in the journal. The conceptual mapping method was used to identify the main themes and patterns in the articles. The analysis was conducted to identify the subdisciplinary distribution, publication regulation, author collaboration, focus of the content of the article, model and portrayal of reality, and other relevant characteristics of the articles.

Results

The results of the analysis showed some interesting findings that gave an overview of the mapping of science in the journal:

Subdisciplinary Distribution

Of the 33 articles analyzed, the majority of articles belong to the statistical science subdiscipline, with 12 articles that raised the theme. This shows that issues related to statistics are the main concern of the writers. The dominance of statistical science in the journal suggests that the writers are more interested in exploring and analyzing data-related issues.

Publication Regulation

The number of articles published in each journal volume shows a fairly regular pattern, although there is irregularity in the number of articles published in 2016. This can be caused by various factors, including changes in the policy of publishing or decreased the author's interest in contributing. The regular pattern of publication suggests that the journal has a consistent and predictable publication schedule.

Author Collaboration

It was found that the article written by a single writer dominated more than the articles written by several authors collaboratively. This shows the trend of the author to express ideas and research individually. The dominance of single-author articles suggests that the writers prefer to work independently and express their ideas without the influence of others.

Focus of the Content of the Article

When analyzing the content of the article, it was found that the description dominates more than reality and perception. This shows that the writer is more likely to explain the phenomenon that exists than analyzing subjective views. The dominance of descriptive content suggests that the writers are more interested in explaining and describing the existing knowledge rather than analyzing and interpreting it.

Model and Portrayal of Reality

In terms of models, articles are more dominant in giving estimates rather than presenting equations, assumptions, or modeling. This shows that the author tends to use a more practical and contextual approach in conveying information. The dominance of estimates suggests that the writers are more interested in providing a general idea of the phenomenon rather than presenting a detailed and precise model.

Conclusion

From this analysis, it can be concluded that online journals read: Journal of Documentation and Information PDII LIPI in 2014-2016 displays unique characteristics in the mapping of science. The author tends to be more focused on statistics, the use of local language, and the portrayal of phenomena with a descriptive approach. These findings not only provide insight into journal content but also contribute to understanding the development of science in Indonesia.
