Introduction

Integrated Pest Control (PHT) is a technology that prioritizes an ecological approach to controlling pests by integrating various compatible strategies. This study focused on the application of IPM among rice farmers in South Tapanuli Regency, with an analysis of six sub-districts in the area, including three sub-districts that participated in the Integrated Pest Control Field (SLPHT) and three other districts that did not.

Background of the Study

Rice is one of the main crops grown in South Tapanuli Regency, and pest control is a significant challenge faced by rice farmers in the region. The use of chemical pesticides has been a common practice among rice farmers, but it has several drawbacks, including environmental pollution, health risks to farmers and consumers, and the development of pesticide-resistant pests. In recent years, there has been a growing interest in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) as a sustainable approach to pest control. Data Analysis

The data obtained from the questionnaire was analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results of the analysis showed that the application of IPM was significantly influenced by ecological, economic, and technological factors among farmers who participated in SLPHT. The regression coefficient for ecological factors was 0.106, economic factors was 0.100, and technological factors was 0.077. The total correlation coefficient (R) was 0.225 and the coefficient of determination (R²) reached 0.474. With a calculated F value of 7.63, which is higher than F table 3.11 at a significance level of 5%, shows that these factors have a significant effect on the application of IPM.

Results and Analysis

Conversely, for farmers who do not follow SLPHT, the results obtained were:

Technology Factor: 0.294

The correlation coefficient (R) for this group is 0.125 with R² of 0.353. The calculated F value obtained is 3.75, also higher than F table 3.11 at a significance level of 5%. These results indicate that even though farmers outside SLPHT have the influence of ecological, economic, and technological factors, the impact is not as strong as experienced by farmers who participate in SLPHT.

The Implications of the Research Results

The results of this study indicate that the application of IPM is strongly influenced by the education and counseling obtained by farmers, especially through SLPHT. The program provides a better understanding of the principles of environmentally friendly pest control, so that the farmers involved can be more effective in managing their plants.

Farmers who do not follow SLPHT tend to experience a lower influence of these factors, which shows the need for efforts to increase education and counseling to this group of farmers in order to adopt better IPM practices. In addition, it is important to create policies that support training programs to encourage sustainable agriculture in the area.
