In addition, the histopathological analysis of the pancreas also showed that there was no significant difference in the area of Langerhans Island (p = 0.589) and the circumference of Langerhans Island (p = 0.634).

This study underlined the importance of understanding the role of antioxidants in the prevention of cellular damage induced by oxidative stress. Although gambier leaves have long been known in traditional medicine, this finding shows that the use of gambier leaf extract in the given dosage does not provide significant protection against the damage to the pancreas due to D-galactose.
