Introduction

The cosmetic product tagline plays a crucial role in the marketing strategy of a brand, serving as a tool to attract the attention of consumers and differentiate the product from its competitors. In this study, we conducted a semantic analysis of various language styles used in the cosmetic product tagline, aiming to identify the types of language styles found in 30 cosmetic product taglines and how the style of language can influence consumer purchasing decisions. The method used is a qualitative descriptive method with the tagline theory put forward by Kotler and Keller (2007).

Methodology

The study analyzed 30 cosmetic product taglines, using a qualitative descriptive method to identify the types of language styles used. The tagline theory put forward by Kotler and Keller (2007) served as the framework for this study. The results of this study indicate that the tagline not only serves to attract consumers to certain cosmetic brands, but is also effective in conveying important information.

Results

The results of this study indicate that a total of 20 types of language styles were found in the 30 taglines analyzed. Among these language styles, Hyperbola appeared five times, followed by Metonimi recorded in three taglines. In addition, we also found three taglines that used Epigrams, as well as two taglines each for Oxymoron, Paradox, and Metaphor. Other identified language styles include Euphemism, Litotes, Irony, Onomatope, Understated, Kiasmus, Sinekdoke, Personification, Simile, Alliteration, Antithesis, and Apostrophe.

Discussion

The results of this study indicate that the use of varied language styles in the tagline helps create an attractive brand image, as well as adding emotional attractiveness and persuasion for consumers. A well-designed tagline can function as a reminder for buyers, reminding them of the values and benefits of the products offered. The style of language used in the tagline contributes greatly to the product marketing strategy, changing simple information into a strong and impressive message.
