Introduction

In today's fast-paced information era, television plays a significant role in shaping the interests and hobbies of people. One of the most popular shows is Smartdrive on Metro TV, which presents various information about the automotive world. This study aims to explore the relationship between Smartdrive automotive shows and the interest in watching among the community of the VI Environment, Pangkalan Mashyur Village, Medan Johor District, in Medan City.

The Importance of Television in Shaping Interests

Television has become an essential part of modern life, providing entertainment, education, and information to people of all ages. With the rise of television, people's interests and hobbies have also changed. Automotive shows like Smartdrive on Metro TV have gained immense popularity, attracting a large audience and influencing their interests in the automotive world. This study aims to investigate the relationship between Smartdrive automotive shows and the interest in watching among the community of the VI Environment, Pangkalan Mashyur Village.

Research Methods

To analyze the relationship between the two variables, this research uses the correlational method. This method focuses on how one variable can affect other variables. In this study, the population studied was the community of the VI environment, which numbered around 910 people. By using the Taro Yamane formula, a sample was determined as many as 90 people with a 90% confidence level and 10% precision. The technique used for sampling is a total sampling, where all members of the population are sampled.

Data Collection

Data for this research is collected in two ways, namely:

Literature Research: Gathering information from books and other relevant sources to support research.
Field Research: Collecting data directly from the community at the study site. This method includes observation and use of questionnaires as a data collection tool, where respondents are asked to answer a series of questions that have been prepared.

Data Analysis

After the data is collected, the analysis is carried out using several techniques, including single table analysis, cross table analysis, and hypothesis tests with the Spearman rank order correlation coefficient formula. This process uses SPSS software version 15.0 to obtain accurate results. The strength of the correlation between the two variables is measured using the Guilford scale.

Research Result

The results of the analysis showed a low relationship but surely between the Smartdrive automotive show and the interest in watching in the Community of Environment VI, Pangkalan Mashyur Village. Although this relationship is not classified as strong, the existence of this influence shows that automotive shows can be a factor that influences the interest of the community in following similar programs.

Conclusion

From the results of this study, it can be concluded that Smartdrive shows on Metro TV have a significant influence, although low, on the interest in watching people in Medan. Thus, automotive shows like Smartdrive have the potential to continue to increase public interest in the automotive world, which is in line with the development of the automotive industry in Indonesia. This research opens opportunities for further study of how similar shows can further increase public interest in the fields of automotive and other media.

With the increasing number of viewers, automotive shows can make a greater contribution to public knowledge about vehicles, maintenance, and automotive technology that continues to grow. Future studies can investigate the relationship between automotive shows and public interest in other communities.
