The Role of Growth Regulatory Substances, Oleochemicals, and Peg in Increasing Production and Accelerating Recovery of Rubber Plant Pb 260

Introduction

The rubber plant clone PB 260 has great potential in latex production, but the recovery of the skin after tapping is often a problem. This study aims to find the optimal combination of growth regulators (NAA+), oleochemicals, and polyethyleneglycol (PEG) which can increase production and accelerate skin recovery in rubber plants. The study was conducted in the trial garden of the Sungai Putih Research Center and PTP Nusantara III in Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, which has ultisol soil conditions at an altitude of 25 m above sea level.

Research Methodology

The study was divided into two stages. The first stage uses a factorial random group design (shelf) with two treatment factors. The first factor is the concentration of NAA+ cytokinin with four levels:

N0 = without growth regulators (control)
N1 = 50 ppm + 50 ppm (kinetin)
N2 = 100 ppm + 50 ppm (kinetin)
N3 = 150 ppm + 50 ppm (kinetin)

The second factor is the type of oleochemical with four treatment levels:

O0 = without oleochemical (control)
O1 = palmitic acid
O2 = oleic acid
O3 = Stearic acid

The results from the first stage show that the administration of NAA+ has a significant effect on the number of latex vessels. However, there is no significant effect on several variables such as the production of G/P/S, skin thickness, and blockage index. Conversely, the type of oleochemical has proven to have a significant effect on production, skin thickness, and number of latex vessels, but not on other variables. The interaction between NAA+ and oleochemical type has a significant impact on sucrose levels and the number of latex vessels.

The Second Stage of Research Results

In the second stage, the random design of the group is used with a treatment factor in the form of an etefon stimulant concentration, which consists of:

S0 = without stimulant (control)
S1 = Formulation of NAA 100 ppm + 50 kinetic and palmitic acid
S2 = ETEFON 1.5% + NAA 100 ppm formulation + 50 kinetic and palmitic acid
S3 = ETEFON 2.5% + NAA 100 ppm + 50 kinetic formulation and palmitic acid

The second factor is the peg concentration with two levels of treatment:

P0 = without peg
P1 = PEG 10%

The results show that the use of stimulants has a significant effect on production, skin thickness, number of latex vessels, and blockage indexes, although it does not affect the levels of inorganic phosphate and sucrose. The PEG application also shows positive results, with a significant influence on various production variables, skin thickness, and blockage index. However, the levels of sucrose and some enzymes do not show significant effects.

Analysis and Conclusion

This study shows that the use of a combination of NAA+, oleochemicals, and peg can play an important role in increasing production and accelerating the recovery of the Rubber Pb 260 rubber plant. The use of NAA+ has a positive impact on the number of latex vessels, while oleochemicals and peg can significantly increase production. Therefore, the right application of this combination can be an effective strategy in increasing the productivity of rubber plants, which is very important for the rubber industry in Indonesia.

Implications and Future Directions

Overall, the results of this study provide valuable insights for farmers and researchers in managing PB 260 clone rubber plants to produce higher quality latex and in more numbers, and accelerate the process of better skin recovery. Further development in this study is expected to provide more effective methods to increase the resistance and productivity of rubber plants in the future.

Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations are made:
