Introduction

The development of a city is closely related to progress in the field of transportation. As a key to accelerating development in various sectors, transportation plays a very important role. In the city of Medan, especially in the central market area, community activity mobility has increased significantly. This happens in line with the growing market activity, making it a crowded class 1 market. However, the high market activity also has an impact in the form of a surge in the number of vehicles, which led to transportation problems, such as high traffic density and traffic conflicts at crossroads.

The city of Medan is one of the largest cities in Indonesia, and its central market area is a hub of economic activity. The market is a place where people come to buy and sell goods, and it is also a place where people come to socialize and enjoy themselves. However, the high level of activity in the market area has put a strain on the transportation system, leading to traffic congestion and other problems. This study aims to identify and overcome transportation problems in the Central Market area of Medan City.

Research Objectives

The main objective of this study is to identify and overcome transportation problems in the Central Market area of Medan City. The specific objectives of this study are:

To identify the current conditions of the Medan City Market Central Area
To determine the effectiveness of the transportation control model in solving transportation problems in the region

Methodology

To assess the transportation situation in the Medan City market center area, the transportation control model is adopted. Direct observations are made to collect data which is then analyzed using VISSIM software. By making direct observations of existing problems, comprehensive understanding of the transportation situation can be obtained.

Results

The results of the analysis showed a significant transportation challenge, especially traffic congestion, which hampered economic activity in the region. The analysis also showed that the transportation control model can be effective in solving transportation problems in the region.

Discussion

Traffic congestion that occurs in the Central Market area of Medan is not only a problem of transportation, but also reflects how the interaction between economic activity and transportation infrastructure can influence each other. The crowded market attracts many visitors, but without adequate transportation systems, the effect has the potential to harm the local economy. The transportation control-based approach is a strategic step that can help design solutions that are right on target.

This model can include several aspects, such as regulating traffic flow, rearrangement of vehicle lanes, and the development of public transportation facilities. For example, making a special lane for public transportation can reduce the number of private vehicles in the area, thereby reducing congestion. In addition, socialization to the public about the use of public transportation and good ways of parking also needs to be done to support this program.

Conclusion

In conclusion, this study has shown that the transportation control model can be effective in solving transportation problems in the Central Market area of Medan City. The model can help to regulate traffic flow, rearrange vehicle lanes, and develop public transportation facilities. The involvement of various stakeholders is very important in the implementation of this model. The government, traders, and the community must collaborate to create solutions that are acceptable and implemented properly.

Recommendations

Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations are made:

The government should implement the transportation control model in the Central Market area of Medan City
The government should develop public transportation facilities, such as buses and taxis, to reduce the number of private vehicles in the area
The government should socialize to the public about the use of public transportation and good ways of parking
The traders and the community should collaborate with the government to create solutions that are acceptable and implemented properly

Limitations

This study has several limitations. The study only focuses on the Central Market area of Medan City, and does not consider other areas of the city. The study also only considers the transportation control model, and does not consider other models that may be effective in solving transportation problems.

Future Research

Future research should consider other areas of the city and other models that may be effective in solving transportation problems. Future research should also consider the impact of transportation on the local economy and the welfare of the community.
