Unfortunately, nutritional problems that arise today are often caused by eating patterns, where many individuals do not pay attention to the diversity of food consumption, the body's energy needs, and the proportion of balanced food.

The Impact of Malnutrition on Health

Many people still assume that full means quite nutrition, even though full of fullness is not always sufficient to meet the nutritional needs of the body. This can cause malnutrition, where the body does not get the nutrients needed or vice versa, energy intake from excessive food can cause obesity, which is related to non-communicable diseases (NCD) such as heart disease, hypertension, and stroke. This condition is often found in adolescents who pay less attention to a healthy diet. The consequences of malnutrition can be severe, and it is essential to address this issue to prevent further complications.

Methodology and Results of the Study

Descriptive research with this survey method aims to describe the knowledge of nutrition and food diversity among students of the Faculty of Public Health, University of North Sumatra. The study was conducted in the period March 2021 to July 2021, involving 80 students as a sample from the Faculty of Public Health, University of North Sumatra. The results showed that 48.8% of respondents were 19 years old, and overall, 100% of respondents had good nutritional knowledge. However, only 66.2% of respondents showed food diversity, while the other 33.8% had no diversity in food consumption.
